Defender Craig Cathcart joined the Hornets on a free transfer, after leaving Blackpool at the end of the 2013/2014 season.
After coming through the age groups at Manchester United, he was loaned successfully to Royal Antwerp in Belgium and Plymouth Argyle, before a loan stint at Watford. Cathcart made his first debut for the Hornets in 2009 against Leicester City at Vicarage Road.
The Northern Ireland international moved on to Blackpool from the Red Devils and in four seasons with the Seasiders, including a year in the Premier League, he made over 100 appearances.
Following his release from Blackpool, Cathcart returned to Watford on a permanent deal. Cathcart made 30 appearances during the 2014/2015 season scoring three goals in the process, as the Hornets gained promotion to the Premier League.
His performances did not go unnoticed, with the defender signing a new and improved four-year deal ahead of the 2015/16 season. Cathcart effortlessly made the return to the top flight of English football, making 40 appearances in all competitions for the club.
He did so well that he earned a call-up to the Northern Ireland national team ahead of the European Championships in 2016. The Watford defender helped his side progress to the Round of 16 before being eliminated by Wales.
Injuries restricted Cathcart to just 16 Watford outings during a frustrating 2016/2017 campaign, but his worth to the Golden Boys' squad was underlined by the award of a new four-year contract in June 2017.
The Northern Irishman battled back from a knee injury to play seven times in the Premier League in 2017/18, playing five consecutive full games at the end of the campaign.
The 2018/19 season was a happier one for the centre-half - he made 41 appearances in all competitions as the Golden Boys reached their first FA Cup final in 35 years and recorded their highest-ever points total in the Premier League.
