The decision to leave Werder Bremen was hard, but the decision to come to the Premier League and to come to Watford was very easy

Prödl started his career at Austrian side Sturm Graz, making his debut at the age of just 19.

His performances gained him a move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in 2008. In his first season, Prödl won the German Cup, and the Austrian international played a vital role during his time at the club, often captaining the team until 2015 when he completed his move to Watford.

The towering centre-back added a wealth of experience to the Hornets' back-line, having previously played in the Champions League and Europa League during his time at Werder Bremen. Prödl featured 24 times for the Hornets in the 2015/16 campaign.

One of Prödl's stand-out moment for the Hornets came as he went toe-to-toe with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2016's 3-1 win over Manchester United. It was one of many performances that earned him the club's Player of the Season Award for 2016/17.

Injuries meant the Austrian was restricted to just 22 outings for the Hornets in 2017/18, and a similar situation saw make just two appearances across all competitions in 2018/19, one in the Premier League, and the other coming in Watford’s 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Bristol City.

Established at international level, Prödl has won over 60 caps for his country and represented Austria at the 2008 and 2016 European Championships.
